I like the elevator pitch, Becca -- and FWIW I have never had an agent, so I would say the key thing is just to get to work and have faith that, as Lao Tau said, "way will open . . ."

And, I hear you...I believe my book's way may not include an agent -- and the good news is that the steps Kim recommends to find an agent (i.e. clarify the pitch, argument, audience, write a detailed TOC, write strong draft of a chapter) would all need to happen either way. I'm getting to work!
